Behavioural Assessment and Re-Training
Behavioural problems in dogs can result for a number of reasons, including issues that are related to genetics, lack of socialisation during puppyhood, bad experiences or a mixture of these. Pinpointing the exact issue and cause/s behind it requires an in-depth consult with a behaviour specialist. Canine behavioural problems are much more common than people think. Some of the issues we regularly see are:
- Boredom & separation related behaviours
- Socialisation issues - can be related to other dogs, people, objects, sounds - anything the dog is not familiar with
- Aggression
- Destructive behaviour
- Inappropriate elimination (toilet problems!)
- Excessive barking or crying
- Jumping
- Mouthing or nipping
The are many potential underlying causes of these problems, so the first
step to resolving the issue is a consult to establish a full history so
that we can make an educated judgement. If we are presented with
very complex behavioural problems, we may refer you to a specialist in
that particular area.
We will then talk to you about what you want to achieve and put together
a program that suits your needs and lifestyle, but more importantly leaves
you with a happier, more relaxed dog.
